The 8th Habit :

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,

it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,

it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity,

it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness,

it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair,

we had everything before us, we had nothing before us,

we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way."

- A Tale of Two Cities,1859.

Man has always been presented with this eternal fight between the dualistic tendencies of the divine n the diabolical. But if a certain gentleman is to be believed, gravitating towards the positives in Charles Dickens's novel is a matter of following correct principles.
He is none other than Mr. Stephen Covey: one of the top motivational speakers in the world today.
He was recently in India to promote his new book "The 8th Habit" and to conduct seminars on the same.
To the uninitiated, some of Stephen Covey's works include:

- The 7 habits of highly effective people: restoring the character ethic- Stephen Covey

- The power principle: influence with honour- Stephen Covey, Blaine Lee

- The nature of leadership- Stephen Covey

But it was the book "The 7 habits of highly effective people" which became hugely popular. For inqusitive readers eager to know more abt the author n his above said work: the following are the 7 habits which the author talks abt:
1. be proactive
2 begin with the end in mind
3. put first things first
4. think win -win
5. seek first to understand n then to be understood
6. synergise
7. sharpen the saw

In his new book Covey, gives a road map to greatness. He exerts everyone to use the human faculties of vision, discipline, passion n conscience. He says finding our own voice , discovering our own uniqueness is no longer enuf, bcoz most of the work in today's world is done in organisations, so positively influencing others is the key. In Covey's model: "leadership is defined as communicating to ppl their worth n potential so clearly that they come to see it in themselves."
Organisational greatness is achieved when a company or instituition executes its mission with clarity of vision n enables synergy n accountability. So the 8th habit is surely "the greatness habit".
Maybe it is time to say : "Its the best of times, its the age of wisdom n greatness...".
