Ismat Aapa ke naam

Lemme try to "tarjuma" the "unvaan" of this post and place it into ur "tassavoor". Well these are the only three Urdu words whose meanings I managed to grasp while Naseer spoke at the play @ Prithvi theatre. Tarjuma is translate, unvaan is title n tassavoor means imagination.

So coming to the title "Ismat Aapa ke naam"..Ismat Chugtai (1915-1991) was a writer par excellence in the world of Urdu literature n she 'd made a unique niche for herself thru' her progressive n rebellious writings which were an offshoot of her outlook on life.

Well, yesterday when we came to know that there is a show being done by Naseer(our very own Naseeruddin Shah)Pradham cudnt contain his excitement. He kept on pestering me to go along with him and though I'd other plans for the Friday afternoon, I gave into his demands 'cuz, even I shared the same admiration for Naseer as Pradham had n moreover I 'd never been to Prithvi theatre (Juhu). So, off we took a rick @ 5 n reached well before the starting time of 6 pm. At Prithvi, Ornithologists 'd a field day with many PYTs (pretty young things) n wannabe actors/actresses moving around the place. Some celebrities whom we saw there included Satish Shah, Ravi Baswani (of Chasme Buddoor fame)n a gal who worked as Rani mukherjee's friend in Sathiya.(Vivek Oberoi n Rani starrer) The show tickets were charged @ 150 bucks each. At the entrance Pradham nearly bumped into Mr. Shashi Kapoor (clad in a crispy white kurta pyjama) looking every bit a sexagenarian in his pink of health. (The 80's ladies heart throb was lookin all pinkish n still appeared like setting some old ladies's hearts aflutter :) )

We then, stepped into a cosy amphitheatre which cud house approx. 300 Spartans..I mean 300 ppl :) (d movie "300" deserves a separate post of its own but more of that later). The show was to consist of 3 plays to be played by an amateur artist, Naseeruddin n his wife Ratna Pathak Shah. The first play was "CHUI-MUI" played by the artist, the second was "MUGHAL BACHHA" played by Ratnaji n the 3rd n the most riveting performance of the evening was given by the one n only Naseerji in the play called "GHARWALI".

After the plays, we set forth to address our pangs of hunger. After the khana-peena, we went to the Juhu beach @ 9.30 ....n the nite by the seaside was a refreshing experience, jus what the doc wud order for tired city-slickers !! The beach was full of life with a father n son throwing flying discs at each other, at another corner some aunties were sitting and gossiping abt their neighbours while yet in another corner a couple was trying to get some privacy of their own...to each his own , the beach provided a perfect place for everyone to unwind after a hectic day n 2 be @ leisure. I looked at the upcoming waves flowing ever so gently n a nice seaside gentle wind was blowing to add to the soothing effect. The city lights @ the distance looked like a glittering beaded necklace on a woman's neck.

Nearby was the famous Holiday Inn hotel..we went inside n did some window shopping @ the bookstore n then decided to get back to Powai. Well it was really a Good Friday, what say Pradham ?? :)
