Cricketing tech-bytes ?!

During the just concluded India-England test series, I saw S Ramakrishnan(Ramki to the team) sitting on his laptop having an animated discussion with Chappel.Talking abt Ramki, well he is the computer analyst for Team India. His job profile includes helping the Indian team achieve n maintain optimum performance by giving them crucial audio-video feedback n maintaining each n every players's match statistics. His software suite contains the following programs:

- SILICON COACH: a video-based motion analysis system, for studying techniques.
The software helps one to measure speed, distance, and time in milliseconds; has speed and distance graphs for calculating the release speed of the ball, the acceleration in the run up of the bowler, the pre-delivery leap, etc among others. It can be used for any sport, for that matter-any activity that involves body movements. As with all visual mediums the % of retention is higher n hence error reduction is faster.

- TIMEWARP: a feedback and instant monitoring tool.A delay can be set whereby the picture of event will appear in the laptop only after five to 10 seconds. So, that the bowler can walk back to the run up,or the batsman can take his stance again, see the motion on the screen n then go through the motion.

- SCOREMATE: A database query system, this software has been used with the Indian team for the past 8 months. It captures all the events during a match along with the video, something than can be databased and the data can be mined using a specific query. So if someone wants to see a particular batsman facing a particular bowler, it can be retrieved from the database easily later. This software helps a coach to quickly analyze and send in reports to the players during matches.
